Today serves as an important reminder: resilience is not a luxury – it's a necessity.
The City of Kalamata is working systematically to build a safer, better-prepared, and well-informed community, capable of preventing and responding effectively to natural and technological hazards. 💪🌱
📍 With a strong sense of responsibility towards our citizens and the environment, we:
✅ Continuously update and strengthen Civil Protection Plans, and conduct preparedness exercises in close cooperation with the Fire Service, Police, EKAV, and volunteer teams.
✅ Promote community awareness and participatory planning, ensuring that every citizen becomes part of the city's resilience effort.
💡 At the same time, Kalamata has submitted and implemented several European-funded initiatives that strengthen local resilience and adaptation to climate challenges, including:
1️⃣ CLIMAAX – supporting risk assessment and the financing of local climate adaptation measures.
2️⃣ Collaboration with the European Investment Bank (EIB) through the InvestEU Advisory Hub, for financing climate-resilient infrastructure projects.
3️⃣ MULTIMAREX – enhancing coastal and marine resilience through innovative early warning and adaptation systems.
4️⃣ URBANCOOL HEAT – developing innovative solutions for heatwave resilience, with green infrastructure and social protection plans to safeguard vulnerable groups.
5️⃣ Participation in the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, guiding Kalamata's path towards climate neutrality and resilience by 2030.
